  ** A later edit - we enjoyed this place so much that we returned a few days later. It just wasn't the same quality. The difference was that the staff was completely different and consequently the experience was lacking. I learned that different days provide different variables and as a result the reviews might vary. I still recommend Modesto and would go there again.

  Our dishes included the mussels, fried mushrooms, hake (just so so), and steak with goat cheese and Roquefort dressing on toast (excellent). The crowning touch was the moist chocolate cake with Bailey's served with marmalade sprinkled with chocolate chips. Suburb! The recommended wine was good.

  The ensaladilla was good and very big portion!! Great location, very close to the cathedral with a lovely outside seating area.

  We came in on a Thursday afternoon and Modesto Tapas provided one of the very best casual meals I have had in any country. The staff was attentive and the service good. The interior decor is warmer and more inviting than many bars we have visited.

  We ate tapas from the special daily menu so what we had may not be available on other days. The wait staff indicated that some things on the menu would remain and others be replaced. The variety was excellent and the dessert to die for!
